To the footballers of Baha Juniors
Football Club - Nassau (New Providence Island) - Bahamas
Circular nº 1
Anápolis GO –
(Brazil), January 10, 2013
Dear footballers, play sports without
turning your back on the Creator, because life without God has no
meaning, even for athletes who have a lot of material goods:
“Let
earthly goods be our slaves: we must never be their slaves”
(Saint Alphonsus Maria de Liguori).
An athlete has the duty of living together with God
through fervent, thoughtful and assiduous prayer. He who does not
pray, lives with his back to God, because to pray is to engage the
Creator in dialog: He who cannot pray a lot, will never reach a high
level of perfection (Saint Aloysius Gonzaga),
and:
“He who does not pray, will not need demons to take him to hell:
he will go there on his own”
(Saint Teresa of Jesus), and also:
“Prayer is the holy furnace where souls glow with divine love”
(Saint Alphonsus Maria de Liguori), plus:
“Prayer is the bond that connects
us to God’s soul”
(Saint Catherine of Bologna).
Gentlemen, the footballer who does not
pray has a sad, bitter, restless soul, because without prayer it is
impossible for a person to find real peace in their heart. Peace
does not come from material goods, from fame, from trophies or from
supporters’ applause... it comes from God:
“He who seeks peace in
people will never find it”(Saint Alphonsus Maria de Liguori).
Be dedicated, industrious athletes, but
do not forget that there is heaven to be conquered. To guarantee
Eternal Life, it is necessary to cleanse the heart of the decadent
things of this world, and to seek holiness with dedication and
joy... it is necessary to have only one love, that is: to have
God... He alone is enough:
“Nobody can love two things at once. If a
person loves the world, he cannot love God, because one love
conflicts greatly with the other”
(Saint Catherine of Siena).
Dear footballers, love God with all your
heart and flee from dangerous friendships... the heart of man is an
abyss and his tongue is false:
“For there is no faithfulness in their
mouth; their inward part is very wickedness; their throat is an open
sepulcher; they flatter with their tongue”
(Psalm 5, 9).
Live ready to meet God after death.
I pray for you, your families, the
directors and supporters of this friendly team.
I bless you and keep you in the Pure
Heart of the Virgin Mary.
Regards,
Father Divino Antônio Lopes FP.
