Circular 01

To the football players of the Belize Defence Force Football Club – Belize City (Province of Belize) – Belize   Circular No. 01   Anápolis – GO – (Brazil), November 12, 2012   Dear athletes, do not forget to do good works because of the obstacles that arise along the way, but confident in the strength that comes from God persevere in the good: “Difficulties strengthen us in the good, they give us moral temper” (Fr. Francisco Faus).   Always keep in mind that soccer is just a sport; therefore, do not spend all of your time with it, but work feverishly to conquer heaven, our true home: “Our true country, where God has prepared for us repose in everlasting joy, is Paradise. We have but a short time to stay in this world; but in this short time we have many labors to undergo” (St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori). A soccer player should be concerned with the salvation of his soul, for he is mortal and will appear before the Court of God after death... unhappy is the athlete who lives here on earth without worrying about eternal salvation. Dear all, is it worth it to have all of the gold in the world without God? Of what good are all the fame, trophies, and applause without God? Only God can satisfy an immortal soul, so work to earn the eternal beatitude: “He who does not believe in eternal life is like a bridge that collapsed in the middle of the river, and can no longer reach the other shore. Eternal life depends on the life that we live in this world. Faith in eternal life is born from tireless perseverance in labor” (Monsignor Tihamer Tóth), and: “You poor, what do you lack, if you have God? You rich, what have you, if you lack God?” (St. Augustine), and also: “If you have God, you have everything; but if you have no God, you have, nor shall you ever have anything” (Gardonyi). Dear friends, do not drift away from God because of the sport... you need to know how to reconcile your spiritual life and sport, remembering that only God can satisfy us fully. Soccer will end, but God remains. Read an excerpt from the Sacred Scripture every day, because good reading feeds our spiritual and immortal soul. Do good while you can, because life goes by like lightning: “When you can do good, defer it not” (St. Polycarp). I pray for you, for the board and for fans of this brilliant team. Aos jogadores de futebol do Belize Defence Force Football Club – Belize City (Provincia de Belize) – Belize   Circular nº 01   Anápolis GO – (Brasil), 12 de novembro de 2012   Estimados atletas, não deixem de realizar boas obras por causa dos obstáculos que surgem pelo caminho, mas confiantes na força que vem de Deus perseverem no bem: “As dificuldades firmam-nos no bem, dão-nos têmpera moral” (Pe. Francisco Faus).   Lembrem-se continuamente de que o futebol é apenas um esporte; por isso, não gastem todo o tempo com ele, mas trabalhem fervorosamente para conquistarem o céu, nossa verdadeira morada: “O céu é nossa pátria, lá Deus nos preparou o repouso numa eterna felicidade. Passamos pouco tempo neste mundo, mas neste pouco tempo temos muitas dores a sofrer” (Santo Afonso Maria de Ligório). O jogador de futebol deve se preocupar com a salvação de sua alma, porque ele também é mortal e comparecerá diante do Tribunal de Deus logo após a morte... infeliz do atleta que viver aqui na terra sem se preocupar com a salvação eterna. Prezados, de que vale todo o ouro do mundo sem Deus? De que vale toda a fama, troféus e aplausos sem Deus? Somente Deus é capaz de satisfazer uma alma imortal; por isso, trabalhem para conquistarem a eternidade feliz: “Quem não crê na vida eterna assemelha-se a uma ponte que ruiu no meio do rio, e já não pode alcançar a outra margem. A vida eterna depende da vida que se leve neste mundo. Da fé na vida eterna nasce a perseverança incansável no trabalho” (Monsenhor Tihamer Tóth), e: “Vós, pobres, que vos falta, se tendes a Deus? Vós, ricos, que tendes, se vos falta a Deus?” (Santo Agostinho), e também: “Se tens a Deus, tens tudo; mas se não tendes a Deus, não tens, nem terás nunca absolutamente nada” (Gardonyi). Caríssimos, não deixem de caminhar para Deus por causa do esporte... é preciso saber conciliar a vida espiritual e o esporte, lembrando-se de que somente Deus é capaz de nos satisfazer plenamente. O futebol passa, mas Deus permanece. Leiam todos os dias um trecho da Sagrada Escritura, porque a boa leitura alimenta a nossa alma espiritual e imortal. Façam o bem enquanto é tempo, porque a vida passa como um relâmpago: “Se puderdes fazer algum bem não deixes para mais tarde” (São Policarpo).
