To the footballers of Montreal Impact – Montreal (Province of Quebec) – Canada   Circular No. 01   Anápolis GO – (Brazil), January 3, 2013   Dear footballers, play sport with joy and dedication, but do not forget to know, love and serve God... because therein lies the greatest happiness, that which the world cannot give you: “How beautiful it is, how great it is to know, love and serve God! It is the only thing we must do in this world. Everything else we do is a waste of time” (Saint John Vianney).   Remember that athletes are also required to live holy lives, because only the holy will enter heaven. To be holy is not an option, it is a requirement. To be holy is not advice that we can choose to heed or not; but rather a divine law, one of the many commandments that Jesus Christ left us in the Gospels: “Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect” (Matthew 5, 48). Heaven is our homeland. To enter heaven, the soul must be innocent and the heart must be pure: you must be holy! Our future life has to be with God in heaven, or without God in hell. To live in heaven with the thrice-holy God, how holy must we be! Our glory in heaven must match the holiness that we take from this world. To be holy is not exclusive to some souls that live far from the world, but the Lord summons all to holiness, God will allow only the holy to enter heaven (Father Alexandrino Monteiro, Raios de Luz). Footballers cannot cling on to sport and turn their backs on God and heaven... they must know how to reconcile sport and a spiritual life, acting wisely so as not to jeopardize their union with God. The athlete must make his life more holy every day, he must be a light where he lives and works, and a slave to the Lord: “But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life” (Romans 6, 22). Beware of dangerous, self-serving friendships. Only in Jesus Christ will you find true friendship. Read the Holy Scriptures every day. I will pray for your and your families’ sanctification. Aos jogadores de futebol do Montreal Impact – Toronto (Província de Quebec) – Canadá   Circular nº 01   Anápolis GO – (Brasil), 03 de janeiro de 2013   Estimados jogadores de futebol, pratiquem o esporte com alegria e dedicação, mas não se esqueçam de conhecer, amar e servir a Deus... porque nisso consiste a maior felicidade, aquela que o mundo não pode dar: “Como é belo, como é grande conhecer, amar e servir a Deus! É a única coisa que temos para fazer neste mundo. Tudo o que fazemos afora isto é tempo perdido” (São João Maria Vianney).   Lembrem-se de que os atletas também são chamados à santidade de vida, porque somente os santos entrarão no céu. Ser santo não é uma conveniência, é uma necessidade. Ser santo não é um conselho que nos seja lícito seguir ou não; mas é uma lei divina, um dos muitos preceitos que Jesus Cristo nos deixou no Evangelho: “Sede perfeitos como o vosso Pai celestial é perfeito” (Mt 5,48). O céu é a nossa pátria. Para nele entrar é precisa a inocência da alma e a pureza do coração: é preciso ser santo! A nossa vida futura há de ser com Deus no céu ou sem Deus no inferno. Para viver com Deus no céu, três vezes Santo, que santidade não será precisa! A nossa glória no céu há de ser equiparada à santidade que levarmos deste mundo. Ser santo não é exclusivo de algumas almas que vivem longe do mundo, mas a todos chama Deus à santidade, pois, só aos santos dará Ele o céu (cfr. Pe. Alexandrino Monteiro, Raios de luz). O jogador de futebol não pode se apegar ao esporte e voltar as costas para Deus e para o céu... ele deve saber conciliar o esporte e a vida espiritual, agindo com prudência para não atrapalhar a sua união com Deus. O atleta deve crescer diariamente na santidade de vida, ser luz no ambiente onde vive e trabalha e ser escravo de Deus: “Agora libertos do pecado, e como escravos de Deus, frutificais para a santidade até a vida eterna, que é a meta final” (Rm 6, 22). Tenham cuidado com as amizades perigosas e interesseiras. Só em Jesus Cristo vocês encontrarão a verdadeira amizade. Leiam a Sagrada Escritura todos os dias.
