To the players of Toronto Football Club – Toronto (Province of Ontario) – Canada   Circular No. 01   Anápolis GO – (Brazil) - January 3, 2013   Dear footballers, always remember that when one is far from God there is neither safety nor hope... Only the Lord is able to protect us and strengthen us for the fight against evil: “Keep me safe, my God, for in you I take refuge! I say to the Lord, “You are my Lord; apart from you I have no good thing” (Psalm 16, 1-2).   Never will an athlete found true happiness in a piece of leather, in money, in fame, in the applause of fans... these will provide him with only a shadow of happiness that will pass by in a moment. Lasting happiness, that which lasts forever, can be found only in the Lord... only in the Eternal, Immense and Infinite Lord: “Blessed are those whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord their God” (Psalm 146, 5). My friends: set a good example wherever you may go... all God’s children are obliged to lead by good example. Being a good example is a sermon that all can preach. It can bear more fruit in the souls of others than many speeches, which fill only the ears. Not everybody knows how to pray with words; but nobody is forbidden from setting an example. A good example is a sermon that everybody understands and may be preached at any time of day, not only in Church, but also on the street and at home. How can it not bear more fruit? Just as Jesus used his example more than his words to show us the teachings of heaven. First he taught men by showing them the noble example of virtue from his days in the poor Nazareth workshop. First he showed them humility, obedience, prayer, seclusion and poverty, and only later did he preach the same things with words (See Father Alexandrino Monteiro, Raios de Luz). Keep away from dangerous friendships and places of sin. Love God above everything and do good while there is time. Read the Holy Scriptures and other religious books. Aos jogadores de futebol do Toronto Football Club – Toronto (Província de Ontário) – Canadá   Circular nº 01   Anápolis GO – (Brasil), 03 de janeiro de 2013   Caríssimos jogadores de futebol, lembrem-se continuamente de que longe de Deus não existe segurança nem esperança... somente o Senhor Deus é capaz de nos proteger e nos fortalecer na luta contra o mal: “Guardai-me, ó Deus, porque em vós me refugio! Digo ao Senhor: ‘Somente vós sois meu Senhor: nenhum bem eu posso achar fora de vós!” (Sl 15, 1-2).   Jamais um atleta encontrará a verdadeira felicidade num pedaço de couro, no dinheiro, na fama, nos aplausos dos torcedores... isso lhe proporcionará apenas uma sombra de felicidade que passa num instante. Somente em Deus... somente no Deus Eterno, Imenso e Infinito ele encontrará a alegria duradoura, aquela que permanece para sempre: “É feliz todo homem que busca seu auxílio no Deus de Jacó, e que põe no Senhor a esperança” (Sl 146, 5). Prezados, dêem bom exemplo por onde passarem... todos os filhos de Deus têm o dever de iluminar com o bom exemplo. O bom exemplo é um sermão que todos podem pregar. Com ele pode fazer-se mais fruto nas almas do que com muitos discursos que só recreiam os ouvidos. O pregar com a palavra nem a todos é concedido; mas pregar com o exemplo a ninguém é proibido. O bom exemplo é um sermão que todos entendem e que se pode pregar a cada hora do dia, não só na Igreja, mas na rua e em casa. Como não há de ser maior o seu fruto? Assim é que Jesus serviu-se mais do exemplo do que da palavra para nos pregar a doutrina do céu. Primeiro ensinou os homens com admiráveis exemplos de virtude que praticou na pobre oficina de Nazaré. Primeiro praticou a humildade, a obediência, a oração, o recolhimento e a pobreza, e só depois é que pregou o mesmo com a palavra (cfr. Pe. Alexandrino Monteiro, Raios de luz). Fujam das amizades perigosas e dos ambientes de pecado. Amem a Deus sobre todas as coisas e façam o bem enquanto é tempo. Leiam a Sagrada Escritura e outros livros piedosos.
