Circular 01

To the footballers of Harbour View Football Club – Kingston (Kingston Parish) – Jamaica   Circular nº 1   Anápolis GO – (Brazil), January 11, 2013   Gentlemen, be dedicated, hard-working footballers, but do not forget to look for the Lord every day, because life far from the creator has no meaning, it is empty and full of anguish... only in God will you find the strength to overcome all the obstacles that lie in your path: “O my Strength, I will watch for you, for you, O God, are my fortress. My God in his steadfast love will meet me” (Psalm 59, 9-10).   Can there really be true protection far from God? Will we find help at difficult moments of our lives? No! Only God can provide us with safe protection. We can trust Him, because He will never betray us: “My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth” (Psalm 121, 2). Wretched is the footballer that abandons the protection of God for the support of men, for he will never feel safe, because the heart of man is false and changes constantly... the heart of man is dangerous and looks after only its own interests. It is not like that with God! Our Lord allows us to be subjected to colossal, difficult trials, but never abandons us... He is a safe refuge for the child who looks trustingly and humbly for Him: “But let all who take refuge in you be glad; let them ever sing for joy. Spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may rejoice in you. Surely, Lord, you bless the righteous;   you surround them with your favor as with a shield” (Psalm 5, 11-12). Dear athletes, do not be fooled by the trophies that sport offers, because they will rust with time and can break easily. Search instead for the true trophy that is Eternal Life... heaven... where God’s heroes live... those that trampled on the vanities of the world to live in the presence of God: “Heaven is our homeland, it is there that God has prepared us to rest in everlasting joy. We spend only a short time in this world, but in this short time we suffer a lot of pain” (Saint Alphonsus Maria de Liguori). Do not waste time with the temporary things of this world; be athletes who are worried about saving their souls, because the things of this world cannot bring joy to an immortal soul. Aos jogadores de futebol do Harbour View Football Club – Kingston (Estado de Kingston) – Jamaica   Circular nº 01   Anápolis GO – (Brasil), 11 de janeiro de 2013   Prezados, sejam jogadores de futebol dedicados e batalhadores, mas não deixem de buscar a Deus todos os dias, porque a vida longe do criador não tem sentido, é vazia e cheia de angústia... somente em Deus vocês encontrarão forças para vencerem todos os obstáculos que surgirem pelo caminho: “Minha força, é a vós que me dirijo, porque sois o meu refúgio e proteção, Deus clemente e  compassivo, meu amor!” (Sl 58, 10-11).   Será que existe verdadeira proteção longe de Deus? Será que as criaturas nos socorrerão nos momentos difíceis da vida? Não! Somente em Deus encontraremos proteção segura, n’Ele podemos confiar, porque Ele jamais nos trairá: “Do Senhor é que me vem o meu socorro, do Senhor que fez o céu e fez a terra” (Sl 120, 2). Infeliz do jogador de futebol que abandona a proteção de Deus para se apoiar nos homens; esse jamais se sentirá seguro porque o coração do homem é falso e muda continuamente... o coração do homem é perigoso e busca somente interesses. Com Deus não é assim! Nosso Senhor permite que passemos por provações difíceis e gigantescas, mas jamais nos abandona... Ele é refúgio seguro para o filho que O procura com confiança e humildade: “Mas exulte de alegria todo aquele que em vós se refugia; sob a vossa proteção se regozijem os que amam vosso nome! Porque ao justo abençoais com vosso amor, e o protegeis como um escudo!” (Sl 5, 12-13). Caríssimos atletas, não se iludam com os troféus que o esporte oferece, porque eles enferrujam com o passar do tempo e quebram com facilidade; mas sim, busquem o verdadeiro troféu que é a Vida Eterna... o céu... a morada dos heróis de Deus... daqueles que pisaram as vaidades do mundo para viverem na presença de Deus: “O céu é a nossa pátria, lá Deus nos preparou o repouso numa eterna felicidade. Passamos pouco tempo neste mundo, mas neste pouco tempo temos muitas dores a sofrer” (Santo Afonso Maria de Ligório). Não percam tempo com as coisas passageiras desse mundo; sejam atletas preocupados com a salvação da alma, porque as coisas desse mundo não podem alegrar uma alma imortal.
