Dear athletes, you were also
created for Eternal Life... for heaven. Therefore, live in the
presence of God and strive for the holiness of life, steering clear
of everything that displeases Him. A footballer must have a pure
soul. “A
man must have a pure soul, like a shiny mirror. When a mirror is
steamed up, a man cannot see his face in it. Likewise, when there is
sin in a man, it is not possible to see God”
(Saint Theophilus of Antioch).
A footballer is not an
extraterrestrial... he is a man (in body and soul) that has been
created by God. This is why he cannot live as if God does not exist,
as if heaven and hell do not exist.
Nowadays, unfortunately, thousands
of footballers live far from God, hooked on sin and attached to
people... they live surrounded by sadness and anguish, because God
does not dwell in a soul that is a slave of the devil.“Sin
and the Lord are completely incompatible. It is an illusion to think
that God will allow us to find Him, will give Himself to us, if we
do not abandon sin. We must always ardently desire that the Divine
Word come into us; but this desire must be effective and lead us to
destroy everything within us that opposes this union”
(Blessed Columba Marmion).
Any athlete that is only concerned
with material growth... collecting medals and trophies...
accumulating money... runs the grave risk of being lost for
eternity, that is: of being thrown into Eternal Hell... because he
has lived in a sea of mediocrity, far from God, with a weak soul
that has been built on sand.
Will he who lives his earthly life
far from God, find Him at his time of death?
“Of
100,000 sinners who insist on living in sin until they die, only one
will be saved at the supreme moment”
(Saint Jerome), and:
“The
salvation of one of these sinners will be a greater miracle than the
resurrection of a dead man”
(Saint Vincent Ferrer).
Do good while there is still time
and do not stop loving God with all your heart... He alone is worthy
of our love.
Be careful of your friendships!
There is a lot of envy and division in football.
I pray for you, your families, the
directors and supporters of this hard-working team.
I bless you and keep you in the
Immaculate Heart of the Virgin Mary.
Regards,
Father Divino Antônio Lopes FP.
